Strategies
- Get informed about speech and language impairments.
- There may be ELL students that have impairments, so have them tested if you suspect anything.
- Make sure you get familiar with your students IEP.
- Make sure accommodations are provided if they are in the students IEP.
- Make adjustments in the classroom such as seating the child near you, provide visual aids, set up a system of signals to use in the room, and provide written directions.
- Work closely with the speech pathologists and special education teachers to get tips and strategies.
- Collaborate with parents.
- Be patient with the child. Let them take their time finishing their sentences. They can often get frustrated, so it helps if you are patient with them.
